Ear wax is normal part of your body’s process and is a combination of dead skin from your eardrum and ear canal mixed with oil from the skin of your external ear. In most people it does not build up or cause trouble and falls out naturally. In some people the wax cannot escape or builds up and blocks the ear. This can cause hearing loss or lead to problems with fluid being trapped in the ear.
It is very easy to remove ear wax in the clinic. The only safe way to do this is with micro-suction. This involves examining your ear canal through a microscope and using a suction device to remove the wax gently. Some people need to have this done frequently and this is more common if you wear hearing aids.
