Professional voice users

Professional voice users include people with high vocal demands such as teachers or lecturers or people who have specific voice related jobs such as singers or singing teachers. It is common for people with high vocal demand to develop periods of voice change. A thorough history and examination with endoscopy and stroboscopy to assess the vocal cords is usually all that’s required to unpick the reasons for this. Medical treatment is sometimes required. Surgical treatment is usually not needed or recommended. Often you would need a course of speech therapy and we work closely with our colleagues in speech and voice therapy to facilitate this for you.
