BPPV is a condition characterised by rotational vertigo (spinning) usually when rolling over in bed or turning your head to one side. It is caused by calcium crystals in your inner ear which can become dislodged and trapped in the wrong part of your balance system.
The vertigo typically lasts for only a few seconds and is usually triggered when you move your head in a certain way. We can test for this condition using a Dix Hallpike manoeuvre and if positive we can attempt to reposition crystals using a manoeuvre known as the Epley manoeuvre.
When the diagnosis of BPPV has been made and the Epley manoeuvre performed, it is quite common to have complete resolution of your symptoms. Will usually touch base with you once the procedure has been performed to see whether any further procedures are required.
