Balance problems that are not caused by inner ear disorders are common. The balance system is made up of multiple sensory inputs including your vision, your joint-position sense and your inner ear balance centre. Your brain coordinates these signals.
Conditions that affect your balance but do not cause vertigo (spining) are more likely to be caused by non inner-ear related conditions. We can usually unpick these with the history and examination although if it is not clear, further tests may be required. These may include scans or formal balance tests. Rehabilitation is often required and we work closely with therapists who can provide that service once a diagnosis has been made.
