Thyroid Cancer

Thyroid cancer is increasingly common. It usually presents with a painless lump in the neck in someone with normal thyroid function, although often it is identified by scans of the neck done for other reasons.

Thyroid cancers are normally identified by a combination of ultrasound scanning and needle biopsy. As described in the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines, the most effective place to get these tests is in a thyroid one-stop clinic (rapid onsite evaluation: ROSE) where biopsies can be checked instantly and repeated to give the highest change of a definitive result.

The most effective treatment for thyroid cancer is surgery and most types of thyroid cancer all readily treatable with either surgery alone or a combination of surgery and radio iodine treatment.

We are happy to be involved in your thyroid cancer care at any stage. This may be during the work-up and diagnosis phase or for treatment and follow-up purposes. Thyroid cancer treatment is always individualised, and we tailor management and follow up strategies according to your specific needs.
